Courses

We offer a range of licence courses. Read through the information about each licence class to find the right fit for you! Each licence class has different eligibility requirements, so make sure you check that you meet the criteria.

Light Rigid (LR)

  • ​A vehicle that is up to 8 tonnes GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass)

  • Can tow a trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM

  • The most common vehicles driven of this class are mini-buses, generally between 14 to 25 seaters, including the driver

  • You can upgrade to this licence after having a car licence for 1 year, not including your learner licence (This means that you could apply for this licence if you have had your red provisional licence for more than 12 months or you are on your first year of your green provisional licence​

Light Rigid

Medium Rigid (MR)

  • ​A vehicle that is over 8 tonnes GVM and has only two axles

  • Can tow a trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM

  • The most common vehicles driven in this class are larger buses, those commonly used by public bus companies, and trucks

  • This class allows you to drive anything in the LR class

  • You can upgrade to this licence after having a car licence for 1 year, not including your learner licence (This means that you could apply for this licence if you have had your red provisional licence for more than 12 months or you are on your first year of your green provisional licence)

Medium Rigid

Heavy Rigid (HR)

  • A vehicle that is over 8 tonnes GVM and has 3 axles or more

  • Can tow a trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM

  • The most common vehicles driven in this class are coaches and the largest rigid trucks

  • This class allows you to drive anything in the LR and MR class

  • You can upgrade to this licence after having a car licence for 2 years, not including your learner licence (This means that you could apply for this licence if you have had your green provisional licence for more than 12 months)

Heavy Rigid

Heavy Combination (HC)

  • An articulated vehicle that has over 3 axles

  • Any towed trailer that has a GVM of more than 9 tonnes

  • The most common vehicles driven in this class are semi-trailers, and truck and dog combinations

  • This class allows you to drive anything in the LR, MR, or HR class

  • You can upgrade to this licence after holding a MR or HR licence for 1 year
