Light Rigid (LR) Licence

Light Rigid

A Light Rigid (LR) Truck Licence enables you to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) exceeding 4.5 tonnes but not exceeding 8 tonnes and tow a trailer that does not exceed 9 tonnes. This licence grants you access to a wide range of vehicles, including small trucks, buses, and motor homes, opening doors to diverse career opportunities and personal pursuits in the driving industry.

Eligibility Requirements

 

To be eligible to upgrade to a Light Rigid licence if you have had a car licence for 1 year, not including your learner licence. This means that you could apply for this licence if you have had your red provisional licence for more than 12 months or you are on your first year of your green provisional licence.

  5. Road Rules and Regulations: Understanding and adhering to relevant road rules, traffic regulations, and legal requirements are essential aspects of LR licence training. You'll study traffic laws applicable to LR truck drivers, ensuring lawful and responsible operation on the roads.

 

Types of Vehicles You Can Drive with an LR Licence

 

Upon successfully obtaining your LR licence, you'll have the authority to operate a variety of vehicles within the specified weight range. Examples include:

  1. Small Trucks: LR licence holders can drive small trucks commonly used for deliveries, transportation of goods, and commercial purposes.
     

  2. Buses: You'll be qualified to drive small buses, including minibuses and shuttle buses, designed to transport passengers.
     

  3. Motor Homes: LR licence holders can operate motor homes and recreational vehicles (RVs) with a GVM not exceeding 8 tonnes, enabling adventurous travel experiences.
